GIANTS Competition

The GIANTS competition results are in! Thank you to everyone who entered. We were blown away by the quality and creativity of the entries. Our team had such fun judging the different categories. Here are the winners:

Haley O'Neill - breens_biggestpumpkin.jpg

BIGGEST PUMPKIN goes to Breens Intermediate with a massive pumpkin with a width of 174cm. Special mention to runners up Diamond Harbour School and Bromley School for some fine and sizeable pumpkins that were just pipped at the post.

TALLEST SUNFLOWER goes to Hāwea Flat School with a towering 232cm tall flower. Special mention to runners up Elm Grove and Hoon Hay School who also grew some monster blooms.

BEST DRESSED PUMPKIN goes to Whenua 3 from Remarkables Primary School, with Irirangi 2 (also from Remarkables) as runner up. This was a contentious category with much debate, and we think you're all winners.

MOST INTERESTING SUNFLOWER goes to Hāwea Flat School with a sunflower that is larger than their teacher's head!

BEST DATA REPORT goes to Whenua 1 from Remarkables Primary School. We were impressed by the careful research that led to the use of horse poo!

All first place getters will receive a $75 gift voucher from Mitre 10. Runners up will receive some gardening goodies in the post. CONGRATULATIONS!

 

Instructions for entering the GIANTS COMPETITION

  1. Complete the form in the category you want to enter and upload your FILEs. All FILES must be named with your school name and then the category e.g. “OTARI_tallestsunflower”. Please note: The photo upload will take you to another webpage – make sure you come back here and submit the form as well.

  2. uploaded files must be one of the following file formats:
    .doc, .docx, .XLS, .pdf, .jpg or .png.

  3. winners will be announced 12pm Friday 12 April 2019.

 

Tallest sunflower

Entries Close: Friday 8 March at 5pm

The tallest sunflower will be decided by our sunflower-loving judging panel. Fill out the form below and digitally submit a photograph of your sunflower that clearly shows: 1) the sunflower’s height from the ground to its tallest point, and 2) a scale reference in the photograph (e.g. ruler).

Largest pumpkin

Best data report

Entries Close: Friday 5 April at 5pm

The best data report will be decided by our data-loving judging panel. To enter, submit a final report on the data you collected from your Electric Garden that shows what insights you gained from analysing your data (e.g. the link between accelerated growth rate with increases in soil moisture, temperature). Your report and insights can be complemented with manually collected data, such as pumpkin circumference.
