Aroha mai, the Electric Garden project is coming to an end.

Kia ora tātou

Since the Electric Garden’s inception in 2018, we’ve been in awe of how creatively and successfully kaiako and ākonga all across the motu have harnessed the Electric Garden as a tool to weave the natural environment and digital technologies education together through meaningful, hands-on experiences.

Unfortunately, the program has become financially unsustainable, and after exploring all of our options, the Electric Garden and Digital Future Aotearoa team have made the difficult decision and must regrettably report that the Electric Garden program is coming to an end.

The Electric Garden program will be coming to an end this Winter 2023, and the EG web portal will be turned off on Friday 14 July 2023

If you have an Electric Garden unit, we’d appreciate it if you can let us know and return the device, so that we’re able to keep it out of landfill. Simply send us an email at the link below to arrange for a courier at no cost to you:

What’s next?

In light of these changes, our team has shifted our efforts to developing a catalogue of fun, accessible, and more varied resources to continue to connect digital technologies education with our unique context, within the culture and environment of Aotearoa. What’s more, these activities are available for free as part of our Digital Pīkau!

Digital Future Aotearoa (DFA) is our parent charity that supports initiatives to help learners, educators, organisations, and communities grow access and capabilities with digital technologies. Aroha mai, aroha nui

We would like to thank all the users and supporters of the Electric Garden. Thank you so much for your passion as educators, for supporting our tamariki and rangatahi to grow and thrive, and for inspiring them as creators and innovators in our increasingly digital world.

Of course we’re still firmly committed to the goals of this project — we’ll just be going about it a bit differently from here on out. Please feel free to get amongst the resources at the links above, and let us know if you have any questions, comments, or ideas to share!

The Electric Garden program has been an incredible journey, and we’ve been privileged to work with you.

Ngā mihi nui!

Nā reira, tēnā koutou, tēnā koutou, tēnā rā tātou katoa.
